The Townhomes on East Ida street are in Southeast Seminole Heights, a neighborhood that straddles two historic districts, Seminole Heights and Tampa Heights, both recognized for their original architectural qualities and a strong sense of community pride.  By leveraging the traditions that characterize these districts, the Townhomes aim to balance individual living quarters’ privacy while maintaining the sense of community between its residents and the broader neighborhood.  The Townhomes sit on the site in two rows of three units towards the site’s perimeter and provide an interstitial communal space in the middle. Each home faces inward, and their primary rooms orient towards the shared interstitial communal space playing with the relationship between private and public space.

Like the porch feature found in the Craftsman Bungalow style homes commonly seen in Seminole Heights, the Townhomes provide a terrace for each resident on the elevated deck level.  These decks offer space to dwell outside, encouraging interactions such as porch sitting and shared events amongst neighbors. Although the units are adjacent to one another, sightlines and buffers are tailored to allow for privacy within the proximity.
